JavaScript is required for almost all functions at this site, other than viewing this introduction. The timing functions, for example are dependant on JavaScript. If you're not sure if JavaScript is turned on, test your settings, using the link above. Popup windows are used to query your current activity and to display your activity summary. Popups are a part of JavaScript, but some browsers enable popups separately. Some, like Firefox, can enable and disable popups on a per-site basis. Cookies come in several varieties: session, persistent, and third party. Session cookies last until you close your browser. Persistent cookies last until the expiration date set by the web site. Third party cookies can be viewed by sites other than the one that set the cookie. Third party cookies have been used by some to track surfers' activities. Cookies, other than third party cookies are generally benign. Timekeeper does not set or use third party cookies. Modern browsers will permit you to avoid third party cookies, and retain the benefits of the more benign varieties. Some browsers will permit you to control cookies on a per-site basis. Timekeeper uses session cookies to connect your Timekeeper window to the database of your activities, consequently you must permit session cookies. Optionally, Timekeeper will save your login information in a short term (currently one week) persistent cookie, so you can usually skip the login process. Persistent cookies are set only at login time if and when you give explicit permission. If you are using a publically available computer, you should not permit persistent cookies, and should close the browser when your session is complete. For more information on cookies, see the
Netscape specification.
A reasonably modern browser is assumed. Timekeeper, so far, has been tested on Firefox 1.0.1 and Internet Explorer 6.0. |
